Withholding Tax
Also known as: WHT
- Definition
- Withholding tax is Singapore tax withheld at source on certain payments to non-residents — interest, royalties, management fees, technical service fees. Rates vary by treaty; standard rate is 15% (interest), 10% (royalties), 17% (management fees).
Withholding tax matters for cross-border family-office structures where Singapore entities make payments to overseas service providers, parent companies, or settlors. Singapore's extensive Double Tax Agreement (DTA) network typically reduces or eliminates withholding tax on qualifying payments. Tax planning often considers DTA-optimal routing.
