Stamp Duty

Also known as: BSD, ABSD, SSD

Definition
Stamp Duty is a Singapore tax on documents transferring property ownership. For HNW families, the relevant variants are Buyer's Stamp Duty (BSD), Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty (ABSD) on subsequent properties, and Seller's Stamp Duty (SSD) for early disposal.

BSD: progressive rates 1–6% based on purchase price. ABSD: 20% (citizens), 30% (PRs second property), 60% (foreigners) — major consideration for international UHNW buyers. SSD: 12/8/4% holding-period escalator for property sold within first three years. Stamp duty is administered by IRAS and is a key consideration in real-estate-heavy portfolios.
