Why did a firm leave the MAS Financial Institutions Directory?

The directory does not say. Common reasons include ceasing the regulated business, surrendering or not renewing a licence, a merger, or a change of name. Leaving the directory does not by itself indicate wrongdoing. Check MAS enforcement actions and the Investor Alert List separately.

How often is this page updated?

We read the whole MAS directory on the 3rd of each month and add a section when anything changed. The MAS directory itself is the live, binding record and can change between our reads.

Does "joined" mean the firm was newly licensed?

Not necessarily. It means the firm was in our later snapshot and not the earlier one. A renamed firm appears as one firm leaving and another joining.
